Gwen, Do you have a copy of the ALEWINES and ALAWINES, Oct. 2, 1994, Courtesy of: Alton Alawine, Meridian, Mississippi?I spoke with Alton in 1999, and he sent me a copy. It has been helpful in locating earlier Alewines. It is a number file of sorts using birth years, etc. Anyway, I located my copy last night and found I believe the Joseph and Rebecca you have in 1860 with the children you listed. This Joseph was born 1833 and married Rebecca (maiden name ?)b. 1833.When you follow Alton's file you will find 1848 James, 1850 John, 1852 Thomas and 1859 Eliza. This Joseph (1833) according to Alton was the son of George b 1795 who married Susan (unknown)Then his father would be 1760 George, then his father would be 1738 Michael, then his father would be John George Alewine who came to the colony of South Carolina. Now...This is from Alton and I have not verified everything in this booklet.I have followed many of the families and he is correct in many areas.I praise his efforts in trying to records our Roots.
I believe that this Joseph and Rebecca 1833 is not our Joseph 1824.He does state that George 1795 moved to Abbeville Co., SC by 1840. In 1860 he (George) were living in the home of their son Mathias.However...the birthdate of Mathias of 1815 is a lot of years between his (Georges) other son of Joseph 1833. So....this is where I am. I don't think this is our Joseph A.and Rebecca (Lightsey). What do you think? Bren
