I am trying to locate more info on my late father's family.
Father: Alfred Leonard Pittman dob 10/1/1931 dod 11/19/1998 My father was born in Colerain, OH & grew up in Martin's Ferry, Ohio. He moved to NJ after serving in the USAF during the Korean War. The majority of the Pittman family were located in or around Monroe & Belmont Counties in Ohio.
G-Father: Leonard D. Pittman dob 1/1/1895 dod 1/30/1946 1st wife Mary Alexander m. April 1918, dod January 1919. G-Mother: Rosa L. Wheeler dob 8/22/1898 dod 1/11/1960
My grandfather, Leonard D. Pittman, was a veteran of WWI & served w/ Co.C 347th Machine Gun Battalion & fought in the last battle of Ypres, Belgium in Ocyober 1918 where he was apparently exposed to phosgene gas. He was sickly the rest of his life.
He was married once before to a Mary Alexander in April 1918 before going oversees. She died in January 1919 possibly during childbirth. He did not find out about until sometime in March 1919 as he was still oversees. My father always said he may have a half brother/sister out there somewhere. More likely both mother & child died.
Leonard also had a younger brother, Dean, who was born approx. 1/2/1899. Their mother, Isabelle Phillpis, died 2/22/1899 apparently due to complications from the delivery.
My great-grandfather, Theodore Pittman, was a railroad foreman & traveled extensively w/ the B&O[?] RR.
My grandmother, Rosa Lorena (Wheeler) Pittman, had 3 brothers: Aaron, Oscar (dod 12/22/1932[?]), & Omer D. (dob 1883 dod 12/2/1913).
Any additional info, dates, etc. will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dennis Pittman, NJ
