Dear Laura:I have hundreds of ancestors and descendants for them.
Isaac J. & Permelia Jane (Johnson) Alexander's son Darnel was 1 of 7 ch.Isaac J. Alexander was son of Isaac and Catherine (nee) Alexander.I would really enjoy knowing the maiden name of Catherine, but all I heard was that she was born in VA or WVA.Isaac Alexander is my uncle of yore.He was son of Wm. "Black Bill" & Margaret (Clark) Alexander of Mecklenburg Co., NC.His bro. Daniel was my 3Ggreatgrand who married my greatgrandmother Susannah Shelby, an ancestor of Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama of today...thru her bro., Moses Shelby, who m. Mary Ann Knox.
Darnel Alexander married Louisa E. McGovern, 5 ch.
Isaac and Catherine went to Butler Co., KY, then on to Warren Co., KY...lived on Little Beaver Crk where Isaac died bet. 1846-1848 per tax lists.Catherine lived in Edmondson Co., KY, about 1850 where she was listed as head of household. She probably moved to MO with many others in the family, but not known. She may have died in Edmondson or Warren Co., KY.
Isaac Alexander's grandmother was Susannah (Polk) Alexander who was married to Benjamin Alexander.Susannah was great- aunt of James Knox Polk and son Charles Alexander's pension application in Maury Co., TN, made by James Knox Polk before he was president. His cousin, Rev/Gen Leonidas Polk who had plantations in LA, visited this Charles Alexander in Maury Co., TN, on Sept 8, 1834, when Charles was 79 and almost blind (prob. cataracts) and lived on Swan Creek. The notes made by Leonidas Polk reaffirms the relations of these Polks with my Alexanders.Benjamin and Susannah (Polk) Alexander moved to Mecklenburg Co., NC, from Germantown, west of Philadelphia, PA, early in 1750s as their son, Charles, was born there Jan 4, 1755.I am a descendant of theirs.
Benjamin Alexander was s/o Andrew & Jane (McKnitt) Alexander of Cecil Co., MD.His and Susannah's first two sons Wm. and Thomas, and first dau., Susannah, were born in Bucks Co., PA.Bucks Co. might have included Philadelphia.
