From a biography of son William Alexander Orr in "A History of Greater Dallas and Vicinity" Vol 2, 1909 compiled by Philip Lindsley, L.B. Hill Editor.
"The father [William Gillespie Orr] mentioned was born in Mecklenburg county, North Carolina, in 1797, remaining there until he was eighteen years old, when he moved to Georgia, the Grandfather, Sample Orr, having passed away within the intervening period. Although a son of wealthy parents, W. G. Orr acquired but an imperfect education, but what he lacked in learning was fully made up in an active and strong comprehension of business matters and a practical ability in the accomplishment of his aims."
Mecklenburg county Will book E, pages 59-61, May 18, 1779; Nathan Orr named sons James, Nathan, William and Sample; daughters Catherine Alexander, Mildridge Alexander, Isabella Beatty, and Agness Orr; and wife Mildridge. Nathan was born about 1730/1735 and had a brother James Orr. Mecklenburg county Will book E, pages 54, August 23, 1792; Mildridge Orr named sons William, James, granddaughter Mildredge Orr, Mildredge Alexander, children William, James, Nathan, Isabella, Mildridge and Agness. Mildredge did not name son Sample in her will.
Any leads on association of Orr, Gillespie and Alexanders is appreciated.
