Alexander Kin, #2, by Charles and Virginia Alexander, pg 437 gives the "Rowland Alexander Bible (also spelled Roland):Rowland Alexander, B 12 Sept 1740, marr 1776 Eleanor Merdah, B 10 Sept 1753, D 4 Mar 1793 at Walnut Hills, Fayette Co., KY.Roland D 1818."Gives children (there is not a Rosannah included as I have seen on other sources).A note adds "Rowland married 2) Eleanor Campbell and the three youngest children are hers.In a letter written by Lena (Alexander) Foxworthy on 10 Aug 1941:"...Rowan Co. where a great Aunt (who had a wonderful memory) said our ancestor Roland Alexander enlisted 4 times in the RW and was B at Elkton, MD, a GRANDSON OF JOSEPH WHO WAS ALSO JOHN MCKNITT ALEXANDER'S GRANDFATHER.Rowland went to NC at the suggestion of his brother-in-law, Joseph Steele, when a young man and married Eleanor Murdah or Murdaugh in 1776.They were largely connected with the Steele and Morrison families in NC and Roland and wife came to KY in 1788 where our branch has lived ever since.""Mrs. North noted that the great aunt mentioned was Sallie (1817-1899), dtr. of Joseph and grand-dtr. of Rowland. She gave Rowland's Bible to Mrs. North's great aunt Lena, who was 68 when she wrote the above letter. She could have been confused with what Aunt Sallie told her and what she read in DAR Magazine... One of Rowland's grand sons went to MO where he had desc. living in the 1940's."
Could this be true about Rowland being a grandson of Joseph "tanner" and Abigail McKnitt?Joseph left a will in Cecil Co., MD 1726-1730 and the only males listed in it are son James (father of John McKnitt) and son Francis and son-in-law Elias Alexander (married to Sophia).I'm not sure what happened to Francis, son of Joseph "tanner", various sources give different things.I've never seen a son named James for Elias, but he did not leave a will and there may be more children out there we don't know about.Have you explored this for the parents of James (to Rosanna Chambers)?
