I was going through some papers here at the house and ran across some things I gathered for someone several years ago. I want to share it with you who are researching James Alexander out of Kentucky. Below is what I have and may help someone.
James and Jerusha Alexander Bible from Revolutionary Pension #W8322
James Alexander February 28, 1756 Jerusha Alexander April 17, 1755 John T Alexander May 2, 1777 James Alexander (Jr) November 9, 1778 Benjamin Alexander December 6, 1783 William Alexander October 17, 1785 Polly Alexander August 29, 1789 Nelson Alexander March 1, 1791 Willis Alexander August 28, 1797
NOTE: Jerusha Alexander, widow of James, applied for pension in 1838, Boone Co, KY, aged 83, stating she married the soldier April 10, 1776 in Orange Co, VA and that her husband died April 10, 1817, Boone Co, KY
Orange Co, VA marriage records list James Alexander & Jerusha TOWNSEND married April 10, 1776, by banns
I knew I had these records but had forgotten them, and the thing that struck me as odd was that Nelson Alexander, their son, was born the same date & year as my elusive ancestor, Nixon Covey. My Nixon said he was born in Maryland, but before he died he told his family that we weren't Coveys but were something that sounded like Donovan (family says it was something that SOUNDED like Donovan) (some say Donahoo, McKenzie, McKinney...who knows?) and when I noticed the birthdate of Nelson Alexander, I thought I'd check him out and see if there was any chance anybody knew anything about him at all. My Nixon was well educated for his time, he was first found on 1830 Montgomery Co, KY, Census, in Morgan Co, KY, on 1840, and on Breathitt Co, KY Census in 1850, and in 1860 & 1870, he was in Estill Co, KY; he was a Baptist minister, a school teacher (I have a book he wrote subjects from which to preach or prove what he believed. He married several couples wherever he lived, we have record of a couple in Morgan Co, Breathitt Co records burned, so we don't have any there, but he married several people in and around Estill Co.
I hope this bit of information on James & Jerusha Alexander helps someone.Diana Covey Frymyer Mussaw
