Alyson, I just noted your posting on the Alexanders who----at one time were thought to be descended from Rev. James Alexander and his wife, Mary Maxwell.Just recently I noted in Vol II of Roger's Memorials of the Earl of Stirling and the House of Alexander---pages 24-27 tell much about this man and his wife. James born 1634,designed of Boghall, eldest son of Robert Alexander of Blackhouse. He graduated fromUniv. of Glasgow in 1653 and in 1655 was ordained in Kilmalcolm, Renfrewshire. He married Mary, daughter of John Maxwell of Southbar. John, only son of Mr. James Alexander succeeded his father in the estate of Boghall in 1669, and his grandfather in the lands of Blackhouse in 1687.So---this would seem to discount him as father to the original seven sons, 2 daughters Alexander of Maryland. The Rev. James Alexander married to Mariam Shaw is also discounted as he did not come to Ireland until 1677.We have lately found documents on him from a book by T.H. Mullin on Convoy Parish.
