Margaret Buckingham Alexander died at her home in Pleasantville on July 20, 2007. She was born in Watertown, CT on September 11, 1909 to Scovill McLean and Margaret (nee McConway) Buckingham. She married Franklyn Sherwood Alexander on Thanksgiving Day in Watertown in 1936. He predeceased her in 1976. Mrs. Alexander was a graduate of Wykeham Rise School in Washington, CT and attended Monte Choisi in Lausanne, Switzerland and Miss Conklin's School in New York. After her marriage, she and her husband lived in Greenwich Village for several years before moving to Pleasantville where both of them became active in the community. Mrs. Alexander did volunteer work for the PTA, the Pleasantville Scholarship Committee, the Pleasantville International Committee, the Community Service Council, Planned Parenthood and the Westchester Children's Association. She had been a VNA board member, a DAR chapter treasurer, a Family Friends host and a host for many foreign students. The Northern Westchester Hospital Auxiliary recognized her for 30 years of volunteer work. In recent years, she was treasurer of the Friends of Mount Pleasant Public Library and an active member of the Pleasantville Twigs and the Pleasantville Chamber Music Society. She was also an associate member of the Fortnightly Club. Mrs. Alexander was devoted to her community and to her family, serving as a role model and guide. She lived a full life with dignity, humor and resourcefullness. She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Robert) Sprenkle of Hurst, TX, her granddaughters Susan (Abraham) Florez of Uncasville, CT and Elizabeth (Scott) Forester of Bedford, TX and great-grandchildren Sarah Forester and Alexander, Samuel, Johanna and Emma Florez. A Memorial Service will be held at the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, July 24 at 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Friends of the Mount Pleasant Public Library or the Pleasantville Scholarship Fund would be appreciated.
