Joan, I am also researching Nathaniel Alexander and his family in Smith Co. TX.I am conducting this work for a friend, and a descendant of Louisa S. Alexander.Nathaniel Alexander was listed with a Headright Survey in Smith Co., Texas, but I did not find his name in the Texas General Land Office records?
I was at the courthouse today and copied Nathaniel Alexander's inventory, rendered by his appointed appraisers on Oct. 19, 1853:

The heirs in 1857 were listed as Mary Jane McKinley, Eunice Ann McKinley, Nancy E. Cooper, Louisa S. Mayfield, Patric(k) F. Alexander, and Nathaniel Alexander. (Source: Probate records of Smith County, TX 1846-1880)
Would happily exchange the Nathaniel Alexander family information thatI have compiled.I do not know who Eunice married but believe I later saw her in a Cherokee County, TX census.
