I share an ancestor with Abijah Alexander, namely Israel Poulton, father of Mary Ann Poulton, who was Abijah's mother. I am descended from Mary Ann's brother Rowland.
I have some information about Samuel Alexander, Abijah's father. He came from Horsley, Gloucestershire, starting off as a shearman (man who sheared cloth) and becoming a schoolmaster in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire. Later he became a missionary and ran a gospel hall in Berkhamsted, Herfordshire.
Samuel and Mary Ann had a large family, mostly born in Chipping Campden. They had two sons called Abijah. The first, born in 1840 in Chipping Campden, died aged two. Then came the other Abijah in Wendover in 1847.
I would be interested to know more of Abijah's history in the US and his descendants and siblings.
