Rather than write a book here, I recommend the book to anyone interested.(When Scotland was Jewish.)I am not saying you are from Scotland, I don't have your family records, you have.I am saying the book says many Jewish Alexanders go back to Spain or Portugal.
My goyem understanding of Jewish history as it relates to genealogy is that the Jewish people were in Judea (12 tribes, north adn south)/promised land/today Palestine and Israel... .Then there was a diaspora. Some Jews split off into Ashkenazi (more middle and eastern European, possibly Greece? Turkey?) and Sephardic (largely in Spain and Portugal). It is from Spain that many European Jews, including Alexanders, came. There are Sephardic Alexanders in Germany and in Scotland.I hope that clarifies why a Scottish Alexander would have any connection to a German Alexander. They would have had their roots back in 1100 (700-1492) in Spain.I can't say my records go back that far to say whether or not my ancestors were from Spain.DNA testing can.
