anyhoo, found a few things and trying to sort them to see if they connect to a Smith family in IN.
From Chalkey's: Smith vs. Wood--O. S. 320; N. S. 115--Bill, 1818, by children and heirs of John M. Smith of Albemarle who disappeared 15 years ago and has since died, intestate, viz: William, John, Thomas, Smith, Sally, wife of Reuben Alexander; Nancy, Polly, Betsy, James, Willis Smith (infant). In 1794 John bought land from David Wood. Wood is dead, intestate, leaving widow _____ and children, viz: Thomas, Nicholas L., Maria, wife of James Clarkson; John W., Wm. L., Rob. W., Margaret L., David I. Margaret L. married James Rogers.
NOTE: Sarah Smith m 23 Jul 1810Albemarle Co VA Rueban ALEXANDER - not much at rootsweb (only 1 son listed David, then the the family seems to go poof as the files have him dying but seems he's still alive and living as he's listed in Albemarle Co VA 1810 (just he and wife listed); then in 1820 Albemarle: 2 0 0 0 1 0 / 2 0 0 1 0
IF he didn't die (or could be a different person) i find one Reuban (age 67) in Orange Co IN with a wife Mariam age 48.
Reason it intrigues me is i'm trying to find some Smith's that were in VA and ended up in SC then went to IN via KY. (That Rev War seemed to move people around for awhile!) Samuel SMITH m Margaret Buchanan.A John Smith is listed in Chalkey's in the neighborhood of the Alexanders and the Buchanan's and Smith's.It has him "disappeared" and wonder if he's not off with another family. ? There is an "elder" John SMITH that is in Monroe Co IN with Smauel and wife. Also there's a land patten assigned to him (John) in KY from a Buchanan that he re-assigned to another Buchanan (all heir-in-laws) - and those names end up in Monroe Co IN also. These people came thru Mercer Co KY; tho origionally they were in VA.
Then in part, from a post here (sorry i don't have the post#s): Sophronia Alexander m. William Johnson is my line. They settled in Brown Co., IN. Wm was listed in 1850 Brown Co. Census with his family. Sophronia apparently died about 1851/2 because William remarried an Ally Wilson in 1852. She was listed alone in the 1850 census. Then he apparently died because she remarried a Solomon Lucas on 27 Jan 1855 and a Samuel Smith on 29 Jan 1855 in Brown Co.
From another Genforum post in part: While reseach today i found a Marriage Reuben Alexander to Jane Smith 9-9-1830 Madison Co, Mo
(The name Jane seems to re-appear in a few of my lines).
Maybe it's all nothing - thanks for reading and if ya have any ideas - please post a reply here. i check boards pretty often and am posting on other possible allied family boards.Have a great day!
BTW, i only have definate: Samuel Smith b 1782/3 d 1848/50 (death index and 1850 mortality index differ on dod) m 1811 Harrison Co IN Margaret Buchanan (1790-1855). Both buried Monroe co IN. i only have 3 known children: Wm, Martha and Alexander.
