I am totally stuck on my ancestor. His name is James W. Alexander. He shows up in the personal property tax list of Charlotte County between 1842 - 1844 for Charlotte County, Virginia.I do not know the year of his birth but know he completely disappears in 1844.In 1843 he married Jane B. Nash according to the Minister Returns and the Charlotte County marriage bonds. In the "Early American Marriages: Virginia to 1850" by Jordan Dodd, Jane's surname is given as North but that is not correct. I know for certain she was the sister of Abner Nash and Martha Nash(who married James Tucker).James W. Alexander and Jane Nash had one child, Lovelett (Lavelett, Lavelette) Alexander who was born October 12, 1845.In 1850 Jane Nash Alexander shows up in the Federal Census as a widow living with her sister, Martha Nash Tucker and her brother-in-law James H. Tucker.
The only other Alexander I have found living in Charlotte during the same time period was Archibald D. Alexander.I know this man very well and researched him thinking he might lead me to my connection to James W. Alexander but so far I have not turned up a connection between him and my James. He shows up in the census for Charlotte County from 1800 to 1850.He was born in Rockbridge County and is the son of Joseph Alexander and Sarah Reid.
I am not sure who the parents are of my James W. Alexander but I am suspicious that he may be connected to either the Rockbridge Alexanders or the Campbell County Alexanders.Really stumped on this one.
