Gfather of yore, WILLIAM 'BLACK BILLY' ALEXANDER, b. Bucks Co. PA, came to Meck. prob. early 1760's with parents Benjamin and Susannah (Polk) Alexander.
My family record shows that he m. "Margaret"...no maiden name. After studying pg. 491 in ALEXANDER KIN Vol II, I have decided that "Margaret Clark" is a 'shoe-in' as his wife. But, I would like to get more solid information if it is out there.
Ms. Beatrice (West) Seitz of Zanesville, WI confused two Wm. Alexanders. To make it as brief as possible:(Her address is no longer the same).
A Wm & Rebecca Alexander of Meck had a dau Ruth who m. Joseph Clark.Beatrice thought that the brother of Ruth Alexander, William, m. Margaret Clark, Joseph's sister.. She also thought that it was this Wm who was called "Black Billy".Of course, it was not.Joseph Clark said he "served in the revolution under Capt. Wm Alexander (not his father-in-law), with Andrew Alexander, 1st Lt.."A census in Meck district #13, I believe, shows Capt. Wm and Capt Andrew Alexander, with others of the family.
My Benjamin & Susannah (Polk) Alexander had sons Capt Wm 'Black Billy' & Andrew. A land purchase mentions Benjamin and son Andrew.Benjamin also had a brother named Andrew.
These Clarks lived on Mallard Creek near Benjamin and Wm Alexander, his son.
I have a gut feeling that this Wm who m. Margaret Clark is my Wm 'Black Billy' Alexander.
Any Alexander and Clark researchers out there willing to help me?Thanks, Mac Alexander.
