It seems my first posting was right.First of all, as close as I can connect on my database, Rev James Alexander is a son of William, 1st Earl of Stirling making your and my James Alexander a grandson. (1503) Menstrie, Clackmannon, Scotland MarriedElizabeth Douglas b (1515)their son Alexander Alexander b(1555) married Marion Graham b(1555) Their children: William, Elizabeth b.1587,James b.1589,Marion b.1591,John b. 1592,Janet b.1595. Son William, 1st Earl of Stirling, (I debate his birthdate so I won't put it down because it doesn't add)Some sources say 1567 which doesn't fit with his mother and father's marriage listed. William Alexander d. 1640 in London, England, buried at Stirling.He married Janet Erskin(e).Their children:William Alexander b. 1591,Anthonyb. 1594,Henry b.1595,John b. 1603(this could be John of the Isles), Charles b. 1604,Jane b. b1606, James b. 1610 his son James b. 1634 married Mary Maxwell(has got to be the Rev) his son James b.1652 married Mary Steele.It certainly fits. John Alexander b. 1603 in Stirling, Scotland emigrated to America 1659 d. 1677, Stafford Co., Va. Married Elizabeth/Agnes Grahame(I have seen it both ways)father was Robert Grahame of Gartmore, Scotland. Robert Alexander married Frances Ashton their son Robert Alexander b. 1688 married Ann Fowke abt. 1708, St Paul's Parish, Stafford Co.,Va. Their son Gerald Alexander married Mary Dent.
