Hi Billie:There were 7 sons and 2-3 dau's. from Ireland (Scot-Irish) to this country in mid1600's.Cecil and Somerset Co's, MD, but they moved around.Benjamin and Susannah (Polk) Alexander, my 5G-grandparents lived in PA, and may have m. there. She in Cumberland Co., and he in Bucks Co., altho' he first was in Cecil Co., MD...his parents at least were.
In this country, Rev. James Andrew Alexander...Samuel...Andrew...Benjamin... William "Black Billy"...Daniel...Marcus Sherman...Baron Dekalb...Albert Campbell, Sr. ...Jr. (my dad)...me.I have a couple of generations prior to Rev. James A. in Scotland.
The British gov't gave poor Scots a parcel of land if they would come and work it for a period of time. The object was to reduce the influence of the rowdy Irish, apparently. And the Irish hated both Scot and Brit for it, altho' the Scots mean't no harm. That is the crux of the problem now, I suspect, in that the Irish had just as soon see all the N. Irelanders leave the country even after so many years have past and some intermarriages have taken place. It seems that, historic- ally, the Scots have always been fighting. I think that it is in their blood. In their genes!Perhaps likewise for the Irish!
I recall a commercial a few years ago that went a little like this:"I'd rather fight than switch".That's the Scots and Irish and now the Scots-Irish.
