Charles Granderson (Grandison), b. 11 Nov. 1838, KY.
The story handed down for over a century is that Charles was a chaplain in the Confederate Army and deserted. He changed his name to Grandison/Granderson and eventually moved to AR where he died 22 Jul 1912.
This is my mother-in-law's gr-grandfather.She says she remembers seeing a Bible in which the "old" family name was scratched out, and Granderson was written in.Through the scratching, she says, it looked like the old name was "Alexander".This is continuing to make more sense. We see a Charles Grandison Alexander, b. 1794, moved to Union Co., KY (although cannot find him on 1850 census records).Does anyone know if he had a son, Charles Grandison Alexander, Jr.?If so, what ever became of him?Could our Charles Granderson have simply dropped his last name?
