Hi Tom: Archibald Alexander, b/o Peter, Robert, & William, was s/o William "The Corpulent" Alexander of Manor Cunningham, Donegal, Ireland, s/o Thomas, s/o Archibald. Have found conflict in Archibald's place of birth. Some list Manor Cunningham. Others list County Down. Have found same conflict with his bro., Robert. The grandfather of Archibald, Thomas, had a dau. who m. Joseph Parks. Their dau., Margaret, m. her cousin, Archibald. According to several sources, the elder Archibald removed with his family from Scotland to Ireland in the mid-1600's. According to data found at Washington & Lee Univ. archives & the "West Virginia Heritage Enc Cuppl, Compendium," pg. 1-2, the younger Archibald descends from the House of MacALEXANDER of Tarbet, Kintyre, Scotland. This would support that the elders father was John Alexander of Tarbet, Kintyre.
You have as much on Peter as I have. My info on Peter is from Arnold's "The Alexander Family . . . A Brief History." His children are identified, but the mother of each isn't. They are: WILLIAM, ELIZABETH (d. 1804; m. JAMES FULTON), ANNE ALEXANDER (m. JOHN ERWIN), MARGARET (m. JOHN MCCLINTOCK), ANDREW (d. in Ireland; m. N.N. Issue: one son), JOHN
(Settled at Russellville, Logan Co., KY.
JENNETT "JENNY" (1st m. FERGUSON MOORE), PETER, REBECCA (m. HUGH YOUNG), and ISABELLA.
I came across a Thomas Alexander in PA, who was a s/o Benjamin, I think. All of the different Alexander families appear to have used the same given names, viz. Andrew, James, John, Joseph, Peter, Thomas, Samuel, Robert, and Archibald. Becomes quite confusing. I will check for other Thomas Alexanders in my notes. I am compiling data on the entire family, so let's stay in touch. My e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. - Bob
