Hi Barbara:First, let me say that there is some question as to who the parents were for our John Alexander who m. Sarah "Sallie" Shelby in Mecklenburg Co., NC.Indications are that he was the son of James and Rachel (nee) Alexander of Mecklenburg Co.However, the only John shown, and he has this date of birth of 1772, is said to have died as an infant.Sometimes, if an infant dies, they will have another child and give it the same name. For that to have been the case here, because of the birth date of 1772, it would have been a son preceding this one?
A John Alexander b. 1772 in Mecklenburg Co. did m. Sarah Sallie Shelby in Meck.My mentor, Mrs. Jean West of Memphis, TN, is still trying to resolve this problem.
Their children:Moses Burton b. 4-1-1814 in Meck., d. 7-23-1853 Shelby Co., TN, married Margaret Allen 10-25-1837 Shelby Co., TN. She was b. 4-2-1816 and d. 11-6-1892.Her parents:Robert Allen b. ca 1770 Cabarrus Co., NC, d. 12-1837 Shelby Co., TN, married Jane Morrow McMurry b. ca 1783 Cabarrus Co., d. 5-16-1867 Raleigh, TN.
Mary Mahala Alexander, Moses' sister, was b. 11-30-1807 Mecklenburg Co., d. 4-9-1859 near Brownsville, Haywood Co., TN.She married Wm. Wilkins Duckworth 1833 in Haywood Co., TN.He was b. 1-15-1805 in SC, d. 4-8-1859 near Brownsville, Haywood Co., TN.
Evan Shelby Alexander was b. 1816 in Meck. d. before Oct 1847, married Pamelia Black who d. before Sept 1844.They married 12-16-1840.
As I said before, I have nothing for Alfred, and show that as his only given name.I doubt the marriage to Margaret Allen, and I think it must have been taken from the web from someone who was confused about who m. Margaret Allen.
I think that I told you previously about who Sarah "Sallie" Shelby's parents, gparents were, right?Regards, Mac.
P.S.I do not have documentation like wills but it is all a matter of record in various books and articles. One source is Alexander Kin Vol I & II.Mac.
