I have been looking for David Cripps for a long time and have not found much on him. There were Cripps also named David in IL who migrated to MO where my David was born according to the census of LA.I have him as a single man in 1850 LA and married to Margaret in 1860 LA.He must have died before 1866 possibly in Homer, Claiborne Parish LA.He was born about 1823.They married Jan. 28, 1853 in Claiborne Parish.Margaret was born Oct. 6, 1831 in Atlanta, GA and died Dec. 17, 1909 in Comanche, Comanche County TX.She and David had two daughters: Lorinda Izora Cripps b. 1854 d. 1928 Jones Co TX and Geniva Cornelia Cripps b. 1857 d. Comanche Co TX.Margaret remarried her husband's hired hand, Mr. Merritt, sometime around 1866.Story goes he up and left and went to AR.(His son Tom Merritt, by another marriage, was the first of three husbands of Lorinda Izora).Margaret had two daughters by Mr. Merritt: Cora Lena Merritt b. 1867 d. 1963 Palo Pinto Co TX and Leota Leona Merritt b. 1870 d. 1971 Tarrant Co TX.Margaret married again to Morgan Elliot Hall in 1880.He died 1892.There was no issue.Margaret remained a widow until her death. She lived just outside the town of Comanche, TX called Hasse. She was out in the cow lot feeding the cow when she was gored with a horn. She died a few weeks later. She is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche. My husband's line comes from Lorinda Izora Cripps Merritt Raney Youngblood. She had a total of 3 boys and 3 girls with three husbands. Her first child was Hallie Mae Merritt. She married Joe Walker of Blackburn, LA and they moved to Sidney, TX, just down the road from Comanche where my husband grew up.Hallie and Joe had Nobie Dee Walker who married a Hendrix. These were my husband's grandparents.
Story goes that the Alexanders were so well off that Margaret never had to lift a finger until she married David Cripps.
