Col. Elias Alexander's son, William Taylor Alexander, married my aunt, Mary Shelby, and made their home in Hickory Wythe, Fayette Co., TN, and some of whose descendants moved on to Tupelo, MS.
Caroline Isabel (Poole) Jones, who m. John Rawls Jones, b. 1880 and died 1934 in Tupelo, MS.She founded DAR Chapter in Tupelo, and was well acquainted with Wm. Taylor and Mary (Shelby) Alexander and their family in Hickory Wythe. She gave her insight into the times in her treatment of the Shelbys in the book The Lineage and Tradition of the Family of John Springs III...at least in one version which I was able to get a copy of.
Col. Elias Alexander married Agnes Nancy McCall.Alexander Kin Vol I lists their son simply as William. But, his middle name is indeed Taylor; i.e., Wm. Taylor Alexander.
[Many have thought that my uncle of yore, Taylor Alexander, s/o Benjamin and Susannah (Polk) Alexander, was the William Taylor who m. Mary Shelby, but not so.I know nothing at all about my Taylor Alexander 'uncle'.]
The reference does mention William's brother as James Taylor Alexander (i.e.,middle name of Taylor).
For anyone interested in this family:Wm. Taylor and Mary (Shelby) Alexander..Mary Isabella Alexander & (2) Capt. Henry Munger...Lillian "Lillie" Pitman & (1) Christopher Poole...Caroline Isabel (Poole) Jones.
I am related more closely with Mary Shelby than Wm. Taylor Alexander.Mary's mother was Susannah Polk Alexander who m. Dr. Evan Shelby, Pvt/surgeon, in Mecklenburg Co., NC; Susannah was a dau. of my greatgrandparents of yore (5G) Benjamin and Susannah (Polk) Alexander.Mary Shelby's sister, Susannah Shelby, became my greatgrandmother (3G). Wm. Taylor Alexander's greatgrandfather Andrew's brother, Samuel, was in my line.
Lillie Pitman's (2) was Rev. John Hunter; Henry Pitman's (1) was Sarah D. Bondurant, and Mary Isabella Alexander's (1) was Jonas R. Kerr.
