I''m also a descendant of Abraham Alexander Sr and can't figure out who his parents are.
I also have an interesting twist to the tale -- his granddaughter (Dorcas) Eliza Alexander McClatchy, via his son Abraham Alexander Jr, was listed a white mulatto on the 1860 Marshall Co, MS, census, as was her husband, (William) Hamilton McClatchy. This family was one of many families so listed: as mulattos, but tallied with the free whites, they owned slaves, and a son of this family served as an officer of a Confederate Regiment. The family has a number of Native American connections, so I believe there was a community of free, land-owning, Christian, mixed blood people that migrated from NC to MS.
So I am wondering where Eliza got her Indian ancestry, something I never see mentioned at all in Alexander documentation.
Any help appreciated, I would be happy to swap what I know about Eliza's descendants with anyone who can shed some light on my two conundrums.
