Here is an Arthur ALEXANDER whom I have not found mentioned in my somewhat limited looking. These notes are a by-product of a look at another Arthur ALEXANDER who married Margaret McCamey of PA and died in 1764. The Arthur ALEXANDER discussed below, whose estate was administered in 1777, was a purchaser at earlier Arthur ALEXANDER's estate sale and was paid out of the estate.
The Mecklenburg Co, NC records show an Arthur ALEXANDER who died without leaving a will. At the April 1777 court session, his widow, Rachel ALEXANDER and Elijah ALEXANDER became administrators of his estate. Ezra ALEXANDER and Ezekiel WALLACE were securities for the administrators. The security bond was for £800. At the July 1777 session, Rachel ALEXANDER and Elijah ALEXANDER returned an inventory and account. The inventory is preserved with loose estate papers at Raleigh, NC but contains no personal names. This Arthur ALEXANDER and wife Rachel are found in several deeds.
One Arthur ALEXANDER was taxed in original Cumberland Co, PA ca 1750 or 1751. Although I have not found him in ALEXANDER genealogies, there is known to the WALLACE researchers an Arthur ALEXANDER who married Rachel WALLACE, a daughter of Matthew WALLACE. Matthew WALLACE owned some land just inside the Pennsylvania line on Licking Creek, presently either Fulton or Franklin County, PA but Cumberland County at the time. Matthew WALLACE left a will which for some reason had not been entered into probate. Three Cumberland Co, PA deeds between 1761 and 1763 show as Matthew WALLACE's heirs the widow Johanna WALLACE, Arthur ALEXANDER, Andrew WILLOUGHBY, William WALLACE and sons Ezekiel WALLACE and James WALLACE.
For the rest, Ifound this posted to a WALLACE site by Dana Whisonant-Schulter: "Matthew Wallace was born around 1672 in Maryland. He, and wife, Johanna were living in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania by 1746. Their children (as provided by documentation --there may perhaps be more, but we have not found them as of yet): James; Ezekial; Rachel Wallace married Arthur ALEXANDER; Elizabeth, who married Andrew WILLOUGHBY; Sarah Wallace married William Wallace; Matthew III; Joseph. Matthew was married twice, his first marriage to Sarah ALEXANDER in Maryland. The second marriage to Johanna."
The only sure date I have found for anyone in this group is in a WILLOUGHBY bible showing that Rachel WALLACE's sister Elizabeth WALLACE, born in 1729, married Andrew WILLOUGHBY, Sr., born in 1717. Perhaps this Arthur ALEXANDER was born in the early 1720s and was in his 50s when he died.
