Hi Penny:Yes, I think you are missing a generation or
Briefly at this time, Col. Adam Alexander m. Mary Shelby,
d/o Evan and Catherine (Morgan or Davies) Shelby, Sr.
CH:Evan Shelby b. 1767 d. Oct 28, 1809..atty, unm.
Charles Taylor b. Feb 5, 1756, m. Margaret Means
Isaac Shelby m. Ms. Erwin and (2) Ruth (Reoce) Reese.
Sarah Shelby m. Capt. John Springs, Jr.
Adam b. 1753, m. Caroline Rankin
Mary Shelby m. James Oliver Wiley
Chas. Taylor and wife Margaret Means had dau. Margaret
Means Alexander who m. my uncle of yore, Col. Moses
Winslow Alexander, s/o Daniel and Susannah (Shelby)
Alexander.Susannah Shelby was my 3G greatgrandmother,
my Alexander 1st cousin, and my Shelby Aunt.My Alexander
aunt of yore, Susannah Polk Alexander, d/o Benjamin and
Susannah (Polk) Alexander, m. Dr. Evan Shelby, Pvt., and
they had 6 girls and 4 boys. They were the ancestors of
Sen. Richard Shelby of today through their son, Moses
Shelby who m. Mary Ann Knox.
Sarah Shelby Alexander, d/o Col. Adam and Mary Shelby
Alexander (Dr. Evan Shelby's aunt or greataunt), m. Capt.
John Springs, Jr., as shown. They had dau. Mary Laura
Springs, who m. John Springs III [this is where the book
Lineage and Tradition of John Springs III ties into our
line...the book gives a lot of Shelby information, too].
At first glance, it appears odd, but John Springs, Jr.,
father was John Springs, Sr.John Springs, Sr., had son
Richard Springs, who named his son John Springs III.I
suppose that this was to keep from confusing the family
relatives since there was a Sr. and Jr (II).It did not
follow protocol (ha). But, John Springs III and Laura
Springs were still cousins.
Isaac and his son Isaac were both, apparently, officers of
the Mecklenburg Co., NC, Courts as they witnessed a lot of
legal documents, etc.In fact, the senior Isaac died and
his widow, Annabelle J. Chamberlain, and Daniel Alexander,
widower and known as Old Dan (above m. to Susannah Shelby)
married in their elder years.
Got to go now.Let me know if I can be of further help.
Incidentally, Dr. Evan Shelby's father was Moses Shelby,
whose brother was Gen. Evan Shelby, Jr.Gen. Shelby has
son Isaac Shelby who laid the plans for Kings Mtn battle
and later m. Susannah Hart of Ky and was 1st and, I think,
also 3rd, gov. of KY.
Later.Mac of Cypress, TX.
