William Alexander wrote his will in Cecil County, Maryland on 20 Jul 1738 and it was proved by his wife, Araminta, on 17 May 1745. The will specifically says that William was "late of the part of the Kingdom of Great Brittain called Scotland but now of Cecil . . . ."
Aside from his wife, Araminta, as his beneficiary, William also mentioned: (1) his sister, Margaret CLELAND, of Whithernshire of Galloway of Scotland (2) his cousin, Mary DONALDSON, of Kirkcoubright of Galloway (3) his wife's son, Ephraim Augustine HERMON. No mention of where Ephraim was living.
This will would seem to suggest that William came from Galloway in Scotland as an adult. He married a widow named Araminta Hermon. I would like to know if William married (Mrs.) Araminita Hermon in Scotland or in America. If this was William's second marriage (there is no way to know for sure at this point), and he had children from a previous marriage, why were they not mentioned in his will. Had he made previous gifts to them?
I assume that this is the same William & Araminta who donated land in Cecil County for a church. Were they buried in that church cemetery?
Is there anyone researching this Alexander family?
