HELP PLEASE!!I have been searching for many months for documentary evidence proving the parentage of the five children of William Alexander and Rutha (Vest) Alexander.William and Rutha were married September 4, 1809 in Boone County, Kentucky, and both died in the 1870s in Martin County, Indiana.
The child for whom I most desperately need proof of parentage is John Alexander, William and Rutha's second child.John Alexander was born November 25, 1812 and died December 27, 1903 in Martin County, Indiana, per his tombstone.John married his first cousin, Lucy Vest (daughter of Rutha's brother, Squire Vest) February 23, 1834, also in Boone County, KY.
William and Rutha had four other children, (1) James (b. June 8, 1810), (3) Mary Jane (b. abt. 1815, married Isaac McCarthy Feb. 1, 1834, Decatur County, KY), (4) Nancy J. (b. April 23, 1826, married Malcolm Davis April 20, 1856), and (5) Margaret (b. abt. 1829-1830, married Stephen Fields, July 3, 1851, Martin County, IN).I would like to document all of William and Rutha's chidren and am especially hopeful that descendants of the other children may also have evidence in their possession regarding John Alexander's parentage.
I have an elderly and ailing mother who would like to join the DAR, but until I can document the linkage between William the father and John the son, I cannot connect John Alexander to his grandfather, James Alexander, who fought in the Virginia Line.I've tried every public source I can think of, so now I have to hope there are family records in private hands. If you can help, I would be most grateful to hear from you, either by a reply posting or direct e-mail.Many thanks.
