James McFarland's 1805 will mentions daughter Betsey, and she is apparently living at home or perhaps in another residence on his property. It's not clear if this is the same Betsey as Betsey Alexander who witnesses his will. If his daughter is Betsey Alexander, I assume she married some Alexander before 1805.James's known children were born from around 1766 to around 1785/90. Do you have any Alexander male born during this period with a wife Betsey or Nancy, whose surname is unknown?
Nancy might be another of James McFarland's daughters who also married an Alexander or might be a sister-in-law to Betsey. Betsey's presumed Alexander husband may have died before 1805. All I can offer is speculation at this point, and these two Alexanders might not be related to the McFarlands at all --- might just be neighbors or something.
James McFarland is shown on the 1773 Sharpe map and also in 1788 on Back Creek off of Third Creek, near Waugh, Irvin, Wm. Morrison and others. James McFarland and his wife Rebekah are my ancestors. Two of his sons, Robert and Samuel, stayed in Iredell and four, William, Patrick, James, and John, moved to Rutherford Co. before 1800. He probably also had a daughter Dorcas who moved to Rutherford. He had several daughters who apparently have not been identified or traced.
Anyway, thanks for all the information! It's a big help in getting me started on the Alexanders in Iredell.
