LEVI SMITH, son of ALLEN and JANE SMITH, was born Jan. l9, l849, near West Union, Ohio, and died June 26, l924, at the home of his daughter, MRS. E.A. ALEXANDER, near Garden Grove, Iowa, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 7 days. He was a veteran of the Civil War.
He was married August l7, l870, to MISS ANNIE E. COLLIER, who preceded him in death 20 years ago. To them were born six children; three having preceded him in death: MRS. ELLA PURTEE, THOMAS EDWARD and SAMUEL IRWIN. The three surviving are: MRS. BESSIE ALEXANDER, of Garden Grove, Iowa; MRS. PEARL MCWILLIAMS, of Osceola, Iowa; and MRS. RUTH BEVARD, of Keokuk, Iowa; also one brother and one sister, WM. S. SMITH, of Roca, Nebraska; and MRS. ELIZABETH DUFFEY, of Uplands, California. He confessed his faith in his Savior early in life and united with the United Presbyterian Church, at Unity, Ohio, of which he remained a faithful member. He was afflicted with kidney trouble for several years but bore hs affliction with unusual patience and was resigned to the Master's will.
Services were conducted at the ALEXANDER home, north of town, Saturday by the Rev. James, Pastor of the Last Chance Church. Interment being made at the Concord Cemetery, near Osceola.
