Have you had any success in finding Castilla Alexander's parents? I do think she is descended from this family: James Alexander was a weaver, farmer and carpenter. Birth: AFT 1668 in Anamessex, Somerset County, Maryland Death: BEF 12 JUL 1717 in New Castle County, Delaware Father: Samuel, Sr. ALEXANDER b: ABT 1657 in Raphoe, Donegal, Ulster, Ireland Mother: Mary TAYLOR b: ABT 1650 in Somerset County, Maryland Marriage 1 Mary STEELE b: ABT 1689 in Newcastle County, Maryland Married: ABT 1700 in Newcastle County, Delaware Children David ALEXANDER b: ABT 1710 in Somerset County, Maryland Joseph ALEXANDER John ALEXANDER b: ABT 1714 in New Castle County, Delaware Francis ALEXANDER b: ABT 1719 in New Castle County, Delaware Moses ALEXANDER b: ABT 1712 in Somerset County, Maryland Arthur ALEXANDER James ALEXANDER
About the time she was born, the only Alexander's still in New Castle seem to be an older and younger John Alexander and a Benjamin Alexander. 1810 Census for New Castle County Delaware, Millcreek Hundred, page 229 lists Alexander, John with one male 45 up and one female 45 up.
1810 Census for New Castle County Delaware, New Castle Hundred, page 174 lists Alexander, Johnwith 4 males under age 10, one male 10 to 16, one male 16 to 18,one male18 to 26, one female under age 10, two females 10 to 16, and one female 16 to 26.
I have seen a couple of postings that believe the following is actually not James LeCount--what do you think? Marriage records for Ross Co Ohio show Lecasts, James m. Alexander, Castilla 12 Jan 1815.
I think the 1850 census clarifies this-- 1850 Census for Elkhart County Indiana, Jackson Twp, page 147: Castilla Lacount Age 58 $1,000 in real estate Born in Delaware* Sally Age 28 Born in Ohio* Margaret Age 26 Born in Ohio* Elijah Age 24 Farmer Born in Ohio John Age 22 Farmer Born in Ohio* Noble Age 19 Farmer Born in Ohio Attended school during past year *Cannot read or write Others nearby who were from Delaware were Zebidel Palmer, age 54, and Carmen Collins age 42.
I just don't think Castilla was that common of a name! Any ideas you have -- let me know. I struggle on looking hit and miss. I haven't made any progress on James LeCount's parents either. How about you?
