Perhaps you can help me tie Ebenezer Alexander down. I have looked unsuccessfully for records to clinch if he was or wasn't the son of James Alexander of Anson and Rowan Counties, NC, and Spartanburg County, SC, (and probably MD before either). I am aware that an Ebenezer apparently knew and interacted with two of James's sons, Matthew and William, in Logan County, KY, but I can't find a family link.
Certain sons of James were James, Jr., Matthew, and William; there is some evidence for a son named David and enough hints for speculation that there were sons named John and Robert. Also, a couple of posters here have an so-far unattached Thomas of the right age in Spartanburg County.
Until fairly recently, I was skeptical (not an unbeliever, just open) about James Alexander Sr's being part of the Cecil County, MD, crowd. A few months ago, however, I had an opportunity to look through some of a deceased cousin-in-law's notes, and her notes fit together with mine to provide a rather convincing argument, for me at least. They also established that his wife was named Mary.
I don't know the maiden name of James Jr.'s wife; however, Matthew and William married sisters, Eleanor and Esther McMillin.
