I saw your message and would like to exchange information on the Alexanders in early KY counties of Logan, Christian, and Hopkins and break-offs from them. My data are primarily on families of the brothers Matthew and William, who may or may not be related to Ebenezer. Several people have reported that Matthew and Ebenezer co-owned or co-operated a salt mine in Logan County in the 1790s or early 1800s. In 1800, the Logan County tax list included Ebenezer, Matthew, and William Alexander.
I know that Matthew and probably William were born in Rowan County, NC, and they spent their early life in Spartanburg County, SC, where they married sisters, Eleanor and Esther McMillin. They migrated to Logan County, KY, in the early 1790s. Several of the early Alexander marriages in Logan and Christian County and counties derived from them were by William's and Matthew's children, and one was by the son of their brother James Jr., who never went west of Roane County, TN, so far as I can determine. I have lost track of William and Esther and most of their family (if they had many children) after 1812, but I'll share any data that I have.
I've noted the marriages about which I have knowledge or educated guesses. Can anyone provide knowledge on others? Data for some of these marriages were provided by other researchers and not verified by me.
Peggy Alexander married William Robertson, 13 Oct 1797
Peggy Alexander married William Anderson, 26 Jan 1801--- I don't know that William and Esther even had a daughter, but the Andersons were associated with the Alexanders and McMillins in SC. The association may have continued in KY. (See marriage of William Alexander and Rachel Anderson in Christian County.)
William Alexander married Hettie Hinton, 26 Feb 1806--- I know that Matthew and Eleanor had a son William old enough to marry; this was probably their son, but he could possibly have been a son of William and Esther. Matthew's son later lived in Henry County, TN
Samuel Alexander married Elizabeth Hinton, 22 Apr 1808--- Samuel was the son of Matthew's and William's brother James. Samuel and Elizabeth left Logan County for Roane County, TN, about 1811.
Nancy Alexander married Benegar Hardison, 14 May 1812
Thomas Alexander married Elizabeth McMillan, 17 May 1822--- Thomas was Matthew's and Eleanor's son, and Elizabeth was his first cousin. Thomas later lived in Henry County, TN, and in MO.
Zenas Alexander married Sally Langley, 7 Aug 1810, John Langley, BM
John Alexander married Peggy Burns, 21 Mar 1813,Joseph Williams, bondsman--- John was the son of either Matthew or William; he served in the War of 1812 and later lived in Henry County, TN.
William Alexander married Rachel Anderson, 4 Jan 1813, Young J. Garvin, BM, Wm. McMillen, gdn. of Rachel--- William was the brother of Eleanor and Esther; and I hazard a guess that this William was the son of one of them and Matthew or William. He may have even been the same William who married Hettie Hinton because she apparently died young.
