I do not know anything about Abraham Alexander Jr being a lawyer. I show him as the owner of the Stirewalt-Rumsey Mill in Iredell Co, NC, which was next door to the McClatchey homestead (very near the site of Fort Dobbs). I have not thoroughly researched Abraham Alexander, so I only know what comes to me through his Will, deeds, and so on.
His daughter was (Dorcas) Eliza Alexander who married (William) Hamilton McClatchy Jr. Ham Jr was the son of (William) Hamilton McClatchey Sr and his wife Catherine McCollum. Ham Sr was the only son of John McClatchey I, the original immigrant, who arrived with his third wife and son c. 1755 in Iredell Co.
I show Eliza Alexander and Hamilton McClatchy Jr m. 12 January 1817, Iredell Co, via family tradition and J. H. 'Abram Alexander,' Genealogical Society of Iredell County, NC, 2000 manuscript
However, their son Allen was allegedly born in 1815. I do not have good solid corroborating evidence on the children's birth dates or the marriage dates, and indicate these as tentative dates pending further information.
Under your unexplained gaps you have:
Another Wm. Hamilton McClatchy, Jr., m. Dorcas Elizabeth
"Eliza" Alexander. I show that they had son Albert Alexander McClatchy, Sr., born May 21, 1817.
-- that is this couple, apparently a duplicate listing.
Do you happen to know the parents of Emily Anna Alexander? I show her b. MS in prob. bef. 1835. I speculate that she may have been an offspring of David Alexander (blacksmith) and his wife Mary McClatchey. Mary was the sister of Hamilton Jr mentioned above. They had eleven children, some of whose descendants wound up in the same places the McClatchy descendants did, including marrying cousins.
I also show the marriage date of Joel Robison and Lucy Ann Alexander Robison via History of Fayette, as per county, marriage records are recorded in Volume D, Page 22, Fayette County Marriage Records--G. Warren Taylor, 'Descendants of Albert A. McClatchy, 1994
I have two dates for the marriage of Albert Alexander McClatchy Sr and (Frances) Catherine 'Frank/Frankie' Cole.
18 April 1845, Marshall Co, MS--source: Marriages of Marshall County, Mississippi, Old Timer Press, Ripley, MS, 1984
22 April 1845--source: Marshall Co, MS marriages online, http://www.rootsweb.com/~msmarsha/marr-lz.htmlhttp://www.rootsweb.com/~msmarsha/marr-lz.html; 1998
In your other gaps:
Rev. William Hamilton McClatchey who m. Mary James and Eliza Blakeway Wingo was the son of Allen MCCLATCHEY and Mary.
Allen's parentage was a mystery for a long time, but it was solved when he was shown as one of four children of (William) Hamilton McClatchy Jr and (Dorcas) Eliza Alexander by John Abner Harris, 'Abram Alexander,' John Abner Harris Papers, #879C, Southern Historical Collection UNC-Ch Library, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC, circa 1937, who showed the four children as being: Margaret, Jane, Allen, John
Family sources also places Albert Alexander McClatchy Sr as their child; marriages, residences, family names, and so forth confirm this, though as far as I can tell, neither Ham Jr nor his wife left a will -- if there is one, I would dearly love to see it.
There are two oddballs -- Samuel Earl McClatchey and Spicy McClatchie Freeman (covered elsewhere) that I believe but cannot prove are their children as well.
William Hamilton MCCLATCHY b. 1853 is the son of Albert Alexander Sr.
There are two genforums, the McClatchy and McClatchey genforums that cover this and o McClatcheys where you can find a great deal of information about this family. I have also posted information at Ancestry.com: http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1152511&id=I54833123http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1152511&id=I54833123
I have also written a hundred and fifty page manuscript about the Southern McClatchey Family: The Descendants of John McClatchey in America. This manuscript is $19.00 to cover the cost of copying and shipping, if you are interested. It is fully footnoted, and mentions over fourteen hundred individuals. It combines family history with genealogical charts.
Do you know anything about Native American connections for the McClatchys or Alexanders?
Please email me for further information.
