I am a document trader & collector & today purchased a very exciting document. It is an original muster roll for a Confederate unit - the 9th Battalion Georgia Infantry. The roll lists 4 Alexanders - Isaac E., William M., William H., & George W.All 4 guys were privates.
I did a little additional research and learned that all four mustered into the company on 3/4/1862.On 5/6/1863 Isaac was transferred into Co. G of the GA 37th Infantry. He died on 6/19/1863 at Atlanta, GA and is buried in Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta. That is basicly all I have learned except they were probably all from Elbert County, GA and one can acquire all of their official records from the national archives - film number M226 roll 1.
The dates on the muster roll that I have are from the date of enlistment 3/4/1862 to the 30th day of April, 1862. On the roll George is noted a having signed on at Camp McDonald and is serving extra duty as the commandant's secretary and is present. Also present at the time of the roll were William H. and Isack but William M. was listed as "Sick at Hospital in Marietta, GA."
I am glad to offer pictures of this very rare document to descendants. Can anyone tell me if these soldiers are kin to each other?
