I am researching Samuel Alexander who left a will in Mecklenburg Co., NC in 1784 in which he names wife Sarah and "young children" James, Elizabeth, Martha, Esther, Mary, Margaret, and Sarah.I am curious if this Samuel Alexander connects to the Alexander families of Lancaster Co., PA.
"Abstracts of Lancaster County, PA, Orphans Court Records, 1742-1767," compiled by Edward N. Webodau lists the following for August, 1745:"John Alexander is appointed guardian over the estates of Jane, Martha, & Samuel Alexander (age not given), the children of Esther Laycock by her first husband."The transcription seems to indicate that the deceased father was named Alex Alexander.
I am curious if John Alexander who was appointed guardian in 1745 of Samuel, Martha, and Jane is the same as John Alexander who left a will in 1763 in Lancaster Co., PA transcribed from "Abstracts of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Wills," by Edward Wright as follows:
5 Apr 1763, 15 Aug 1763 ALEXANDER, JOHN Wife: Jane Alexander. Children: Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary wife of ---- Hunter, and James. Ex.: Samuel Simson and John Wharey. Martook Twp.
The township should be spelled Martic.
Was John Alexander who died in 1763, the same person as mentioned in an earlier Lancaster Co., PA will transcribed from "Abstracts of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Wills," by Edward Wright as follows:
11 Jan., 22 Jan. 1745 ALEXANDER, DAVID Bros. John and Robert, Mother Mary Alexander.Sisters - Mary Patterson and Jennet Pinkerton. Ex.:John Creswell and George Duleny.Pequea Twp.
I believe John Wharey named as executor in the John Alexander will (see above) may have been a son-in-law of Robert Steele.
Is anyone researching this Alexander family of Lancaster Co., PA?Are they connected to the Alexander families of Mecklenburg Co., NC?
