THANKS so much for all that great Alexander/Lee/Peyton info! While it may not answer who Squire Lee is, I'm figuring that the more we find out about the families around him, the greater our chances of finding his parents. At least, I hope so!
Here's one thing I have. Thought I'd pass it along "just in case".
James Alexander - brother to Alcinda - is shown as living immediately next door to Squire and Alcinda Lee in the Jonah Hood District of Loudoun Co. on the 1840 census.
The following is a bit different than what is shown in the Mildred Collier Berman papers . . .
I have that William Washington LEE [brother to Squire] married Susanna Benton PEYTON [not Susan Alexander] 10 Nov 1831 in Loudoun Co.
I have that Squire's other brother, Alfred Lafayette LEE, married Susanna's sister, Margaret Malvina PEYTON, 13 Aug 1840 in Middleburg, Loudoun Co., VA.
If I'm understanding the Mildred Berman papers correctly, it appears she was saying that Susan and Margaret Melvina were ALEXANDERs [daughters of James and Jane] and not daughters of William PEYTON. I'm thinking she was confused as I'm showing the book "Loudoun Co. Marriages" as the source for this info.
I do have that William PEYTON was the father for both Susan and Margaret - making them sisters to the Jane PEYTON that married your James ALEXANDER.
In your research of James Alexander, have you found children by the name of Susan or Margaret? I'm a bit unsure of what to make of the Alexander vs. Peyton surnames for the two girls.
One other item that connects with your James Alexander and his daughter Elizabeth who married Enoch TINSMAN is that Squire LEE attested their ages and was bondsman when they married 6 May 1844, Shelburn District, Loudoun Co., VA.
Thanks again and let's keep pounding away at Squire. Sooner or later he'll give up those secrets! ;-)
