PS:As you prob. know, Mary Brevard, his sister, married a well-known Gen. Wm. Lee Davidson, Sr., of Mecklenburg Co., NC, fame.He had a son, Wm. Jr., who was also well known. Davidson College was named for one of them...cannot recall right this moment which one...prob. Sr.Gen. Davidson and my 4Ggreatgrandfather's swords hung in one of the halls at Davidson for some time, until a fire destroyed that section of the hall near the library.
My 4Ggreatgrandfather was Capt. Wm. "Black Billy" Alexander, who led a raid at Rocky River Settlement in Cabarrus Co., NC, against a cousin of his, Col. Moses Alexander, who was hauling British black powder, etc, to Alamance to meet up with a British force (Moses = Tory; Wm. = frontiersman.) Wm. BB was only 18 yrs of age at the time. All the 'boys' were known afterward as the "Black Boys of Cabbarus Co."Wm. BB's father, Benjamin, and Col. Moses Alexander had grandfathers who were brothers! Benjamin and wife, Susannah (Polk), were my 5Ggreatgrands.
Wm. BB Alexander's Polk relatives were well-known:Thomas, Ezekiel (grandfather of Pres. James Knox Polk), etc).Wm.'s mother was Susannah Polk, sister of these Polk boys, and dau. of Wm. and Margaret (Taylor) Polk, g-grandparents of JK Knox.Gen. Thomas Polk's dau., Jenny, married (of all people!) the son of Col. Moses Alexander (Tory):Nathaniel, who became gov. of NC later on.
Elizabeth Brevard married into a line of Jettons (m. IV).
