If your Dorothy was an ALFORD and not an ALVORD then it is unlikely the book will help you.
Two brothers came to Boston, with a sister, in the early 1630's,Brother Alexander or his desendants chose to spell the name ALVORD and they are well documented in this book. Our Alford association is working to update and extend it.
The other brother, Benedict, used the ALFORD spelling and no one has compiled a genealogy on his descendants but our association is working on one.
Tell me all you know about your Dorothy and maybe we can help.No charge or obligation.
By the way - several libraries have the Alvord book - like the New England Historical Genealogical Society and the National Genealogical Society - I believe. You can also purchase a reprint but it costs about $65 which would be bit too much to learn about one person.
Regardless of how she spelled her name or where she fit we would appreciate your sharing with us any and all information on the descendants of Dorothy Alford. If you wish you can send by regular mail to AAFA, Inc. POB 1586, Florissant, MO. 63031.
If you have not been to our web site maybe you'd like to take a look.We are just geting started.
