The "Descendants of John Alford born about 1786/7 in North Carolina" put out by the AAFA gives the oldest son of Pleasant Alford (son of John M. Alford) as Robert Alford, born in 1973, m. (with a question mark) to Carrie Edson, d. 1942 in St. Joseph, Missouri. It lists his children as Freemont Alford and Mildred Alford.
The family treemaker put out by a member of the Edson family (http://www.familytreemaker.com/_glc_/1584/1584_684.html) states that Carrie B. Edson, daughter and fifth child of Isaac Edson and Margaret C. Gibbs, married William Alford. It lists a son (no name given) who was killed in an airplane crash.William Alford could be Pleasant Alford's son Robert William Alford since Robert Alford was listed in the 1880 census as Robert W. Alford and my father, Pleasant Alford's youngest son, Roscoe Randolph Alford (1905 - 1972) corresponded with a half-brother "Will", 31 years older than him.
I found Fremont R. Alford (b. 13 May 1904, d. Jan 1947) in the Soc. Sec. Death Index (I was told that my father had a nephew, son of his brother Will, that was a year older than him). The SSN was issued in Texas.I sent for a copy of the SS-5 form (Application for Soc. Sec. Number -- Usually filled out by the person receiving the SSN) for Fremont R. Alford. It did list the parents as William Alford and Carrie Edson and Place of Birth St. Joseph's, MO.However, it was dated 27 Aug 1952, over 5 years after his death. In place of an address was written the word "Deceased" and in place of a signature were written the words "San Antonio, Field Office".
Can anyone give me any evidence either supporting or refuting the idea that Fremont R. Alford's father, William, was Pleasant Alford's oldest son? Can anyone give me any information about Fremont Alford and any wife, children and/or siblings? Does anyone have any ideas as to why he received a Soc. Sec. Number over 5 years after his death?
