This might prove to be just shot in the dark, but on the other hand could be worth mentioning in your Alford Meeting in Georgia. John Newsome/Newsom and 1st wife Martha "Patsy" Alford had many children (Hosea, Molly, John, Mary, Dortch, etc.).Most of these children are easy to verify with available Georgia court records involving a dispute over John Newsome's will. Some of the children were not involved in the dispute; thus, not mentioned in the court records. It appears from other available records (primarily census records) that among their children were twin boys, Asa Newsome and Doss Newsome. These two males were living among verifiable children in Morgan Co., GA and were too old to be sons of an older child of John and Patsy's.Asa and his family were even listed as living in the household of an older Newsome daughter, Molly Newsome Byrd.I mention this because the name "Doss" is not a given name or surname from the Newsome side of the family.Could this be a surname from the Alford side of the family?Possibly the maiden name of William Alford's wife?I've only spent a small amount of time exploring this possibility and haven't turned up anything further to support this theory. Although, two other Alford researchers have contacted me and stated that they had speculated about a Alford/Doss connection as well, and they knew nothing of the son named Doss until reading one of my messages. Gil, if you'll send me your mailing address (snail mail), I'll send you what I have regarding the children of John Newsome and wife Patsy Alford.I produced a book on my Newsome ancestry a few years ago; virtually everything I have is recorded (primary and secondary sources cited) in this book. I'd be happy to send you a copy of the two chapters regarding John Newsome and his son Dortch Newsome.
