To all the Alfords looking for information: My name is Ann Fulp Walker, and I now live in Moreno Valley, California. My maiden name is Martha Ann Fulp, and I was born (1949) and grew up in Winston-Salem, NC. My mother was Martha Vietta Bullock, of Rowland, NC (born 1923). HER mother was Vietta Alford Bullock of Rowland, and before that, Alfordsville.Vietta had a sister, Alexa, a brother Carl, and perhaps several other siblings...I can find out more for sure for anyone interested. My grandmother, Vietta, and most of her relatives are buried at Ashpole Presyterian Church outside Rowland and Alfordsville. I have the family Bible which contains the following information: In the center, between Old and New Testments is section of "Family Records": "James McRae and Catherine McP Alford was married July 28th 1859. Henry Giles Alford and Mary Elizabeth Butler was married Nov 8th 1866. David Alford and Elizabeth Jane Williams was married Nov 28th 1866. Sue Ellen Alford and William J. Boney was married March 31 1868." Next page: "Jacob Evander Alford and Flora Ann Euphemia Buie was married January 27th 1869. Margret Dian Alford and John J. Carr was married Feb 2nd 1878." I can't tell whose Bible this was originally, but in the front, it says "Lio__ Alford's Book.Son of ______"Perhaps Lina, Liona; I can't be sure. The "son of ..."part looks like perhaps "mum", but in all lower case, different pen used than the original identification. The original title page of the Bible says "The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments, translated out of The Original Tongues; and with the former translations diligently compared and revised.New York: American Bible Society, Instituted in the Year MDCCXVL, 1854." I hope this helps some of you in your search.
My oral information is primarily from my Uncle John Frank Bullock, originally of Rowland, NC, (born about 1927, now residing in Roanoke, VA), who indicates his research has shown that Richard Alforde, born Whitestaun, Wales, arrived Jamestown, VA, 1607, later arrested for something like stealing sheets.Had son, whose name my Uncle John could not remember, who took two sons and settled in Raleigh area. One of sons, Jacob, born 1737 in New Kent County, near Richmond Virginia, christened in 1738 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church (parish established 1684), where George and Martha Washington were married in 1700.Please do keep in touch with me at either "email@example.com" or "firstname.lastname@example.org" Good luck in your searches.
