Annie Parks, an ex-slave of Warren Alford in Mer Rouge,La. remembers life on his plantation in her WPA ex-slave narrative. Warren Alford was the slave owner and father of my ancestors, so this voice from the past is exciting to me and hopefully others. Annie Parks was quite elderly when the narrative was recorded, but she mentions several things that I know are fact--so I know some of her recollections were correct. However, she claims that her mother traveled over the seas with Warren Alford's grandmother---which cannot be true---as his grandmother was probably dead long before her mother, the slave, Sarah Mitchell was born. Never the less--her mother may have gone on a trip with another female relative of Warren's--and I'd like to know if anyone knows of a trip, perhaps to Europe, probably in the 1830's--taken by an Alford woman of , Georgia, Mississippi or Louisiana.
