New Jersey Alford land
Has anyone heard of the "Alford Tract"? In the mid 1700's, a large tract of land in New Jersey, near the modern-day Belvidere, NJ, was sold off by one John Alford of Charlestown, Mass. It was supposedly one of few tracts of land in the area not owned by William Penn or the Proprietors of East Jersey.
The population the area was predominantly Scots-Irish and Presbyterian, so I wondered if he colonized his tract with these folks, as was often done by colonial land proprietors.
If you have any information on Alford and his enterprise, It would greatly help me trace my New Jersey ancestors.
