NESCO’s History & Preservation Committee in Indianapolis is researching the homes and businesses along East 10th Street and we are interested in contacting descendants of the Fremont Alford family who owned property at about 2422-28 E. 10th.
I’m not very far into the research, but it appears that this family had a garage, house, and apartment building “The Alford.” I understand that Fremont was a criminal court judge from 1895-about 1907 and had earlier been a justice of the peace. In 1889 he’s listed as living at 550 Clifford Ave. (which later became 10th Street). We’re interesting in learning more about him and his descendants.
Here are some questions:
When and why did they build the apartment building? Who operated the garage? Do you have any photographs or documents concerning their property that we could copy for our files and web page? When did Fremont first live on 10th Street?
