I'm so glad you are still around! I believe I might have found a great clue to this family. Elizabeth Alfred/Alford's daughter had a picture of a man from a studio in Oregon with "F M Alfred" written on it. I found a bio online for "Francis Marion Alfred" and it gave his birth as 1832 in Pike Co, IL. His parents as Alonzo Alfred and Nancy Wilson. There was also a picture of "F M Alfred" next to his bio. It is the same man! I haven't been able to find a marriage for this couple yet. I'm pretty certain that Nancy Wilson is the Nancy Alford/Alfred that married John Kelso.
My feelings are Nancy Wilson was a daughter of Silas Wilson and Elizabeth Smith. I have information about the Wilson family that was obtained from the Calhoun Co Historical Society, it states that Silas Wilson died in Pike Co, IL in 1838. The family group sheet doesn't list a daugther named Nancy, but it does have "Janey" with no other information except birth year of 1810 in KY. If we can find a will or estate file for Silas, it might mention Nancy "Janey" and her children and end the mystery!
I think I read in one of your messages that you live in the area. Would you be able to visit the Pike Co Courthouse to do research? I was there in 2007 but wasn't working on this family at the time! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Let me know your thoughts.
