Could Warren Jackson Alford have been married twice?
There is amarriage record for Warren J. Alford and Sabitha [Tabitha] White in Upson Co., GA, on 23 July 1876. It's at Georgia Marriages, 1808-1967, FamilySearch.org:
https://beta.familysearch.org/
In 1880 Warren is listed with wife "Allithe" age 23 born Georgia. No other Warren Alfords are on this census in Georgia.
There is a Tabitha White in 1870, Troup Co., age 14 born Georgia, head of household female Epsy White. Her family is in Tallapoosa Co., AL, in 1850: Thomas and Epsy White with a number of children matching the 1870 census.
Does anyone have a marriage record for Warren Alford and Nannie Herring? I thought I heard somewhere that she is the daughter of James and Mary Herring, the couple Warren lived with after the war.
However, in 1900 James and Mary Herring are listed in Thomaston, Upson Co., GA, as boarders. Mary is shown with 1 child born, 0 living. Ancestry family trees show this child as Anderson Herring 1847-1864, and he is with them, with no other children, in 1860.
So who is Nannie Herring, definitely listed as wife of W.J. Alford on her gravestone? I can't find her on any censuses prior to her marriage to Warren.
Has anyone done further research on the possibility of two wives?
