Malcolm, Don't know if you got the gist of the message sent by Gil Alford or not. To summarize, we believe the William you suggest to be John Alford's father to be the son of Baldy Alford and Elizabeth ______.Baldy was the son of Isham Alford (born 1755 NC) and Anne Ferrell (born 1755 NC).Anne was the daughter of John Ferrell and Anne Fish but we really don't know the parents of Isham Alford. Undoubtedly, his ancestors go back to New Kent Co. VA in the early 1700's and the late 1600's.Several of them migrated to NC about 1750. Originally we thought Baldy was short for Archibald, Baldridge or some other name but the thinking is now that the name was BALDY. That is a surname although we have yet to connect it.Isham (or someone)seemed to be fond of male names beginning with "B" and Brittain, Baldy and Bynum were the result, all of which are surnames but none of which can be directly connected to anyone of that surname as yet. There is much yet unknown about the whereabouts of Baldy during the time of his marriage and the early years during which his children were born.He is listed on GA Tax Lists in 1805 (Greene Co.), 1810 (MorganCo.), 1817 (Morgan Co.)Several of his children listed TN as a birthplace and indeed in 1815, Baldy was found on a tax list in Williamson Co. TN. Baldy was in the War of 1812 (Pvt.,2,Thomas'). Your William was born about 1810 in Morgan Co. GA (as per his pension application for the Creek Wars). His first wife was Priscilla Truss (married Feb. 23, 1829, St. Clair Co. AL) and she was the mother of John Allen Alford, born 1839 AL.John Allen is a common name in this family as that is the name of the first husband of Anne Ferrell. He may have died as a result of the Rev. War and Baldy had two half-siblings--Elizabeth and Jesse ALLEN. John first married Mary Burgess, Nov. 17, 1859, St. Clair Co. AL, and in 1880 their children were Charles (12), Modenia (9), Gilbert (3), Joseph (4), and Hoy (1), all born in AL. I don't have the 1870 AL census right now so don't know of older children but there may have been daughters.
