According to an entry in the Corbin collection Alvord/Alford was a Saxon name.A Robert de Alford, a descendant of "Bigot" came to England with William in 1066.Does this refer to the Bigod family of distinction and how accurate do you think this is? Another note I have says Alexander Alvord of Northampton, who m Mary Vore in 1646 at Windsor, CT, was son of Thomas Alvord/Alford and Joan Hawkins, daughter of John Hawkins of Ashhill, Dorset, England.Thomas and Joan married on 11 May 1618 at Ashhill which is about 8 miles from Whitestaunton, where a branch of the Alvords lived, including: John Alford, bc 1475-85, had son Rev. Alexander who married Agnes ? and had ch: William, John, Bartholomew, Solomon bc 1530, Mary, Alice, Elinor, Bridget.Rev. Alexander's will dated 20 Dec 1576. Does anyone else have information on these ancestors?
