Tammy, An Ann Clark has just posted a similar query on the Lee Co. TX USGENWEB site. She says William's family moved to Lexington, Lee Co. TX, about 1851.The marriage to Mary Elizabeth Alford occurred in Bastrop Co. TX, Aug. 9, 1866 or 1869.We have two different dates and I don't know which is correct.Ann and a Wm. Griffith who posted a query in 1983 in GEN. HELPER seem to think that Benjamin Thomas Griffith, born 1841-1843 AL was William's brother.Benjamin was in Washington Co. TX in 1850 and was a Confederate soldier from TX.Ann thinks that the 1860 Burleson Co. TX census suggests that James Griffith, born 1818 TN was their father and that they also had a sister named Amanda (born 1848 AL) who married John Lytle Farmer. Do you have a list of their children? What happened to the children after their mother died and their father deserted them? Now that I know Mary Elizabeth's birthdate and place, I will try to figure out who her parents were. There were several ALFORD-GRIFFITH marriages in the southeast US so maybe there was a connection between the families before they even got to TX.Do you know where in AL the Griffiths came from? I look forward to working with you to discover more about Mary Elizabeth's ancestors.
