Dear Randie, Did Martha Elizabeth go by "Eliza"?That is how she is listed in the marriage record we have and possibly in the 1880 Lee Co. census. It is probable that she is the daughter of Allen Alford (born AL) and wife Polly _____ (born SC or GA) who were living in Lee Co. in 1880.An Elizabeth/Eliza who is a daughter, age 16, is living with them there. As far as I know they are missing from the 1870 census we have but it may be that they are missing from the index and thus got missed. Were possibly in Bastrop Co. (see below). Where did you get the names of Martha Elizabeth's siblings? From the 1860 Sabine Co. census, there was Mary, Nancy, Thomas and William and possibly a son of Polly by a first marriage named John Dodd (but listed as an Alford)? In 1880, there is William, age 20, and Elizabeth, age 16 as well as a possible son-in-law or stepson John Dodd. Her brother William was William Ball who married Joanna Dodd.We believe her older sister Mary Elizabeth married William Griffin/Griffith in Bastrop Co. in 1869, so maybe that is where they were in 1870. If this is your family, we are cousins because Allen's father was the brother of my 3rd great-grandmother Anna Alford Davidson. We only have proof for the ancestry back to 1755 when their parents Isham and Ann Ferrell Alford were born but hope to bridge the gap (prove Isham's parents) and take it back to New Kent Co. VA c1700 or before. There are still many blanks to fill and we would be happy to exchange information.
