My interest in the Alger family lies with my ggg-grandmother Charlotte ALGER.She was married 19/5/1871 in the parish of Brampton, Huntingdon (now Cambridgeshire) to Charles GRAY.
She would have been born circa 1850.While Charles lists his father as Frederick GRAY, ropemaker, Charlotte does not list her father.
Attending the marriage is Alfred and Maria ALGER.I deduce from this that Alfred was not her father but most likely her brother with his wife.
Seeing your message, Alfred ALGER born 1846 lived around London...it makes me wonder is there a connection? For what it's worth, Charlotte's son was named Harry. He moved to London, had another son, Harry, and they eventually went to Australia.
It would be good to hear from you, or any interested party.
